The most beautiful season of the year is here. Take care of it and explore your surroundings enjoying what the season has to offer when it comes to magical colors and flavors.
A perfect weekend trip from Vancouver is going in to the Okanagan Valley. It is absolutely stunning there and it is season for harvesting and time for the yearly big salmon run.
We did it all in 3 days.
Drive the north route there making a pit stop at Adams river at Shuswap Lake to look at the crazy salmon run when millions of salmons are making there way upstream. The Sockeye salmon is turning bright red when traveling upstream, and to see this unreal situation with salmon filling up the river is an absolute must-do!
Regarding exploring Okanagan Valley we decided to focus on the area around Kelowna to later end the weekend down in the Naramata region on the way home.
The colors this season is absolutely magical and to see the rape grapes hanging there waiting to be picked is awesome.
OUR FAV WINEYARDS AND WINES:
- Nichol Vineyard, Naramata
Try their Rose
- Grey Monk Estate Winery, Lake Country
Try their Gewurztraminer
- Fairview Cellars, Oliver
Awesome red wine, we loved their Two Hoots
- Quails Gate Winery, West Kelowna
We loved their Pinot Gris and their oked Chardonnay
We also wanted to explore the old railway in Myra Canyon which is now a popular biking trail. You can bike parts just for a day, or chose to spend several days exploring more. We really gonna go back exploring more but this time we only had time for a day trip and we therefor decided to stay up in Myra Canyon at the absolutely lovely Myra Canyon Ranch and B&B.
We didn't know much about this place before we got there but we didn't get disappointed. We would go back here time after time. There is a lovely Swiss couple owning the ranch which moved here for the love of horses and climbing. There is world known bouldering right around the corner and you can make horse riding trips from the ranch or explore the Myra Canyon railway by bike or foot. The rooms are great; clean, well planned and with stunning views, there is a hot tub and a BBQ free to use at the terrace and the breakfast is absolutely lovely. As you here, a must stay!
We drove the south way back home via Oliver and Naramata. For God sake, do not miss visiting Naramata, it is like a Tuscany of Pacific north west. Another fun little pit stop is the natural phenomenon Spotted Lake.
