The Galapagos is a magical place. A must on your bucket list. But save some money first so you can do it the proper way. I had the absolute pleasure to go here with my mom and my sis on a trip organized by Äventyrsresor with awesome Anders Elmfors and Mattias Klum as guides.
The Galapagos islands is being formed by the activity of a hot spot just below the islands furthest west in the group. Then the islands is slowly moving east while they are being teared down. It is really fun and interesting to see how the islands differ in how they look and what they are made out of and so on.
Most of the time we were staying at a yacht waking up with a new island in sight every morning. The days were filled with excursions in small groups ashore and amazing deep water snorkeling mostly from our zodiaks. The wildlife in the Galapagos is as nowhere else, the time has almost been standing still here. The animals you see, looks as they should better be placed in the time of the dinosaurs and they aren't afraid, at all (!). You have to watch your step to not be stepping on for examples hundreds of marine Iguanas lying around sun bathing at the lava cliffs.
An absolute win for me on this trip was swimming with penguins. I have been exploring the world a lot but I have never seen penguins in the wild before. And imagine (!), swimming with them, these cuties. Almost all species you meet in the Galapagos is only to be found at these islands 1000 km out from the main land of Ecuador and nowhere else. Some of the species you have here are Marine Iguanas, Land Iguanas, Tortoises, Marine Turtles, Sea lions, Fur seals, Penguins, Pelicans, Flamingos, Red footed Boobies, Blue footed Boobies, Nasca Boobies, Fregatt Birds, Darwin Finches and much more.
Do not hesitate to put this trip on your list!
